Emigrant Gap
Emigrant Gap
Located about 20 miles west of Soda Springs and 5 miles east of Blue Canyon, Emigrant Gap is at the edge of the summit. With lower elevation (5200′) and good winter access, it has become a popular area for locals. It is also popular with hunters desiring a simple cabin with less snow. The area is definitely affordable and prices range from $250,000 to $500,000. Emigrant Gap consists of several I-80 exits: Yuba Gap, the areas just off Hwy. 20, Laing Rd, Emigrant Gap, and Blue Canyon exits. There is a lovely community of a few dozen homes just off the Blue Canyon exit that has several ponds and hiking trails, all on paved, plowed roads.
The tiny hamlet of Blue Canyon is also a part of Emigrant Gap. It consists mostly of small cabins clustered together under tall pines. Some of these cabins are on leased railroad land and therefore very inexpensive. Others have been fixed up and on the whole this area is seeing more modernized cabins each year. The setting is beautiful. Blue Canyon is accessed from the Blue Canyon exit. Drive past the airport and go down into the canyon a mile or so.
